Our Intention

About Lettuce Giving: we are 501(c)(3) and a team dedicated to improving the lives of those in need by providing essential resources and support. Our mission is to make meaningful positive impacts first in our Wilmington NC community and then far beyond.

Founded in 2023 by Kassie Rempel, Lettuce Giving is the loving outcome of her experience being a serial entrepreneur, CEO, CFO, CPA, engaged citizen, and PTA parent. She enjoys bringing creative solutions to communal challenges, caring for her kids (2), dogs (3), decorating for Halloween, celebrating her birthday with a box of Krispy Kreme, and gardening

(she is Lettuce Giving's "Head Gardener" after all).

Our Initiative

BitCushion is the first program launched and funded by Lettuce Giving. Seeking to increase the wellbeing and upward mobility of those trapped in the cycle of poverty, BitCushion grants approved households an amount certain, for a period certain (an unencumbered stipend) to have the agency and dignity to choose for themselves how best to invest in their future.

Partnering with Community in Schools, two pilot case studies will be conducted beginning in Jan 2026. These pilot programs will be used to develop best practices to transition BitCushion from a pilot to a sustainable program extending its community impact and outreach, and to support similar "guaranteed income" and "basic universal income" programs across the country.
